Gospel singer Bobbi Storm was nearly kicked off a Delta Air Lines flight after she ignored a flight attendant’s requests to stop singing on the plane.
In a cell phone video, Storm posted on TikTok and instagramThe singer is seen standing in the hallway talking to the flight attendant.
«I’m on the Billboard charts right now,» he says.
The flight attendant asks him to sit in his seat. «I can sit,» she responds as she walks back down the aisle toward her seat. «I’ll sit down. The seat belt sign is off. The seat belt sign is off. It’s not a bother.» It’s not clear from the video if the signal was off.
Storm sits down and begins to tell the other passengers that she has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and then promotes her song «We Can’t Forget Him.» Storm is not nominated individually but has performed with Maverick City Music, which is nominated at the 2024 Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song and Best Gospel Album for «The Maverick Way.» Storm appears on the album’s song «Firm Foundation (He’s Gonna Make A Way).»
NBC News has reached out to Maverick City Music for comment.
Storm then tells the other passengers that she wants to sing for them, as the video shows.
«I wanted to do it when I first got on the plane, but I was like, you know, I haven’t done this in a long time. I got to the next state, so…» he begins as the flight begins. The assistant interrupts her and asks if she is going to remain silent.
Storm says the other passengers are enjoying it. «I’m not enjoying it, so I ask you to stay quiet,» the flight attendant says.
The pair go back and forth and at one point Storm says she’s «doing what the Lord tells me to do.» The flight attendant tells her that if she does not follow her instructions, they will remove her from the flight.
«If that’s the case, then that’s fine,» he replies.
As the stewardess walks away, Storm begins to sing.
The singer wrote in the caption of the TikTok video that she was happy to be able to «share this moment with the people on this flight who hugged me and celebrated me.»
«I want to post this for the people who have momentary power… It gets us nowhere to be nasty and I’ll leave it at that! Blessings to all of you from your #FearlessFlightSinger #TheMaverickWay #WeCantForgetHim #grammys,» he wrote.
In an emailed statement, Delta Air Lines said it has been in contact with Storm. «For the safety of our customers and crew, it is always important to follow the instructions of our crew,» the company said.
NBC News reached out to Storm for further comment on the incident.
In a follow-up video, Storm said she wasn’t breaking any rules when she decided to sing. She also said that she did not want the flight attendant to be reprimanded or lose her job.
«It was just me sharing my joy with people,» he said, adding that the passengers on the flight had given him «the opportunity to do so.»
The incident has divided social media users.
«It’s not a stage. I want a quiet flight too,» one TikTok user commented.
«Honestly I would hate for you to do this lol,» another TikTok user wrote. «I need peace and quiet on the plane. But congratulations.»
Some social media users said she was «selfish» and «entitled,» while others blamed the flight attendant.
«Wow, what had him so mad? You weren’t bothering anyone, you shared something positive in your section and it clearly went down well with the other passengers,» one person wrote on Instagram.
«Lmao, he was crazy, no one was complaining about you except him. What a hater! Keep singing girl!» wrote another.
