An Illinois eighth-grader says he simply fell to the ground «in disbelief» after hitting a buzzer almost across the court to win a basketball game for his team this week.

Milton Pope Elementary’s Cooper Thorson is the star of a viral video showing the impressive shot he made Tuesday against rival Marseilles Elementary School.

«I just tossed it to the side and it somehow managed to find its way into the rim and it was a perfect snap and I just had no thoughts of making it and when I did make it I just dropped to the ground in disbelief,» Thorson said. he told WFLD.

Milton Pope’s eighth grade boys’ basketball team defeated Marseilles 34-32 after Thorson’s impressive basket sent the crowd into a frenzy in the gym.

The team trailed their rival 23-13 at halftime.

«The combination of how he shot, being a game winner, being that far… I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything like that before,» said Milton Pope assistant basketball coach Dakota Jones, who first shared the images on Twitter – he told WFLD.
